Roman "San" Shymalo is a fan of the football club "Karpaty" (Lviv).
Roman Oleksandrovych Shymalo was born on August 1, 1994 in the city of Lviv. Studied at school No. 90, after graduating from which he entered the Lviv Vocational College of Hotel, Tourism and Restaurant Service. Since childhood, he was fond of football, active sports and martial arts, hiking, motor sports, drew graffiti.
He first appeared in the fan section of Lviv "Karpat" when he was 18 years old. And he immediately set himself a goal - "break through the Golden Season." Roman quickly gained the respect of the boys on the road, always showed himself to be an active participant in the fan movement.
Friends and classmates from the college remember Roman as a sociable, intelligent and judicious student, always active in public life. Before the events of 2014, he worked as a cook in one of the Lviv restaurants, and even then he was planning and building his career. He dreamed of his own house and a Japanese car. And also a motorcycle, in which he understood and could talk for a long time on this topic. Mountains also occupied a special place in Roman's life. He loved them very much and always invited them on hikes. He valued the feeling of freedom, nature and adventure almost the most.
When the Revolution of Dignity began, Roman left all his affairs and studies and became a participant in important events for our country. He felt he had to be there. He must take care of the fate of his own country. The events of 2014 and the Revolution of Dignity changed Roman. He chose the path of struggle for the Ukrainian state. Joined the National Corps, where he participated in political events. Studied at schools and prepared. Subsequently, he was drafted into the National Guard of Ukraine.
In 2021, he became a soldier of the "Azov" self-defense unit, where he took the call sign "Sun" (from the word "Sun"). He was a senior machine gunner of the 1st operational assignment platoon of the 3rd operational assignment company of the 1st operational assignment battalion.
The beginning of a full-scale war was met in Mariupol, which was rapidly approaching the overwhelming forces of the enemy. Roman Shymalo died on March 4, 2022, having received a non-life-threatening injury while performing a combat mission.
Awarded the Order "For Courage" III degree (posthumously).
