Roman "Bench" Chernenko is a fan of the "Dnipro" football club, a representative of the "Perspektiva 14" team.
Roman Oleksandrovych Chernenko was born on May 25, 1995 in Dnipro. From a young age, he was keen on sports and stood out for his steadfast patriotic stance. Engaged in contact martial arts, among which he preferred classical boxing. Having joined the fan sector at the age of 15, he actively supported the team, often attending away matches of his native club. On the podium, he joined the first team of the Perspektiva 14 football team, which was actually the next generation of older and better-known teammates from "MiD".
Among the fans, Roman met people with close views and convictions who became his true friends. The revolutionary events in Dnipro took place with them, when local fans and patriotic youth had to forcefully defend the city in street clashes with pro-Russian "aunties". With the beginning of the Russian invasion in the east of Ukraine. like many of his teammates, Roman was going to defend the Motherland. In August 2014, during the Ilovai operation, the Azov resident "Dierzky", who was a friend of the boys from "Perspective 14" and had a significant influence on the young team, died. After this loss, "Bench" finally decided to go to war.
Having joined "Azov" in September 2014, he went to the intelligence unit, where he became the calculation number of the AGS. Roman's brothers remember that he quickly mastered military affairs and had great zeal, boldly performing intelligence tasks. On February 10, 2015, the Pavlopil-Shyrokin offensive operation began. Despite the general uplifted mood before the liberation of their native land, Azov residents were aware that the battles would not be easy. As if with a premonition of something bad, the day before "Bench" wrote a farewell letter and left it with his brother with the nickname "Obama" so that he would convey the last words to his mother.
On February 14, after the successful clearing of Pavlopol and Lebedynsky in the composition, "Bench" took part in the offensive on Shyrokyne (Donetsk region). A battle ensued, during which his AGS calculation destroyed the enemy's manpower and equipment. Enemy armed formations and Russian terrorists pulled up heavy weapons and began shelling Shyrokyne with self-propelled guns. Unfortunately, fragments of one of the shells ended the life of Roman Chernenko. One of the fragments injured the leg, which the medics immediately paid attention to by dressing the bleeding, but the others pierced the bulletproof vest and lungs of the courageous Warrior.
By the decree of the President of Ukraine dated May 15, 2015, he was awarded the Order "For Courage" III degree (posthumously). A memorial plaque in honor of the fallen Warrior adorns the facade of the Dnipropetrovsk Railway Lyceum, where Roman once studied. Two weeks after the death of their devoted fan, Dnipro football players honored his memory by taking to the field in T-shirts with a photo of "Bench" before the match against Volyn Lutsk. A tattoo with a portrait of his friend and brother Roman was worn by another Azov resident from Dnipro - Denys "Skiper" Kotenko, who died in a full-scale war during the defense of the capital.
