Oleh "Berkut" Didushko is a fan of the "Dynamo" football club (Kyiv) and a representative of the "Old Legion" team.
Oleh Didushko was born on March 17, 1972, in Kyiv. He finished Kyiv school number 108. He was in regular military service in the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR. In the early 1990s, he was involved in the containment of the interethnic conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. Oleh spent all his life in Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. In his younger years, he became a candidate for the Master of Sports of the USSR in boxing.
However, "Berkut" became widely known not because of his sports achievements. Being the representative of the old school of capital fanaticism, he visited many Ukrainian and foreign cities supporting "Dynamo". He witnessed the times, as fans often say, of romantic fanaticism. He also participated in numerous football events of the 1990s and 00s. The adventures of Oleh "Berkut" and his teammates on the Kyiv stands are legendary.
In the winter of 2013-2014, he was on Independence Square in Kyiv, where he was actively involved in the Revolution of Dignity. On February 18, 2014 (the first day of shootings in Maidan) he was wounded in his leg on Hrushevskoho Street. With the beginning of the Russian military aggression in the east of the country, he voluntarily joined the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine. From May - July 2014 he served as a grenade launcher of the 2nd reserve battalion of operational designation of the NGU (now - the battalion of operational designation named after the Hero of Ukraine General Serhiy Kulchytsky National Guard of Ukraine). Since May 2014 he was involved in the ATO. He was on duty near the city Barvinkove (Kharkiv region), then - near the city Sloviansk (Donetsk region). He was involved in the liberation of the city of Sloviansk. He had four rotations in eastern Ukraine.
On 7 February 2015, at about 22:30, during the service at a checkpoint near the city Debaltsevo (Donetsk region), a group, which soldier Oleh Didushko was part of, was under continuous artillery and mortar fire and fought with the superior enemy forces. During the battle, Oleh Didushko suffered numerous shrapnel wounds incompatible with life.
According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine № 176/2015 of March 25, 2015, "for personal courage and high professionalism in the protection of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine", he was awarded the Medal "For Courage", III degree (posthumously). A memorial plaque was unveiled on the walls of school number 108, where Oleh Didushko studied.
I served as a volunteer with him - in the second reserve battalion in May 2014. After the liberation of Sloviansk, our paths diverged. Oleh was transferred to the unit of the National Guard of Ukraine No.3002 in Lviv. And I joined the artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since Oleh was my old comrade from the civilian days, we kept in touch all the time. When I found out about his death, I marked the shells and became the howitzer's serviceman, and shelled the enemy. It was in the Bakhmut highway area.
That is how his comrade-in-arms Andriy "Nestor" who also was a fan of "Dynamo", would be remembering him later.
